Westwood, incorporated in 1894, is considered the "hub of the Pascack Valley". This is because most visitors within the Valley usually pass through Westwood. Westwood is 2.4 sq. miles. Westwood borders towns in the borough such as Washington Twp., Hillsdale, River Vale, and Emerson. On the southern side of town Paramus is also a border.
The population census in 1990 was 10,466 and the approx. for the year 2000 is 11,000. The tax rate in 2000 is $2.73 per hundred dollars evaluation.
Westwood has a regional school district with the neighboring Township of Washington. There is one high school (grades 7-12), five public grammar schools and in addition there is Zion Lutheran School (grades K-8). For the working parents the Dr. David Goldberg Child Care Center provides day care for ages 2 ½ to 5.
Westwood provides water services by United Water Resources. The town is fully sewered.
Westwood has two new residential sections but for the most part its older community houses most of the population. There is a three-block business district with numerous retail stores, professional offices, and service-oriented businesses to satisfy your shopping needs. There are about 75 stores all in all. Also the Westwood Plaza a 30 store shopping area on Broadway with Kmart and Grand Union as anchors. The borough has a small industrial area along with Pascack Valley Hospital. Many residents enjoy watching a movie at the Pascack Theater and possibly before the movie enjoy eating dinner in one of the many restaurants in town.
