Hillsdale was incorporated in 1923. It sits on 2.9 square miles and borders Washington Twp., River Vale, Woodcliff Lake and Westwood.

The population of Hillsdale as of 1990 was 9,750 and approx. for 2000 is 10,450.

Hillsdale school systems includes the Meadowbrook school (grades K-4), Ann Blanch Smith School (grades K-4), St. John’s Academy (grades preK-8), George White School (grades 5-8) and Pascack Valley High School (grades 9-12). The high school is also shared with Woodcliff Lake.

Hillsdale has 3 facilities for working parents such as United Methodist Church, St. John’s Academy, and Temple Emanuel. Also some parents put their children in care at the Washington Twp. YWHA.

The borough of Hillsdale uses public water and gas from United Water and PSE&G.

There are approx. 175 local businesses & restaurants. This includes Shop Rite, Grand Union and 7-11. Also among all the businesses there are doctors, landscapers, and other people services.
